Since 1990, the World Affairs Council of Charlotte annually presents the World Citizen Award to prominent citizens (and organizations) who have enhanced our community’s standing in the world their accomplishments of international significance and contributions to the city, this region and our international community.
Dr. Raghavan is being honored this year because he is an internationally renowned cancer researcher and medical oncologist, as president of Carolinas HealthCare System’s Levine Cancer Institute since April 2011, Dr. Raghavan has been instrumental in the launch of Levine Cancer’s first patient navigator academy which was one of the first for a health system in the country. Dr. Raghavan has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals, having been cited a clinical expert on issues like the value and cost of cancer care in tons of national media outlets. His work has been pivotal in Carolinas Healthcare System, now Atrium from No. 46 to No.9 rating in the U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of top cancer hospitals.
